Originally from Washington, DC and having sung from a very young age, Roderick Harper found his calling as a student of the late Alvin Batiste at Southern University in Baton Rouge where he co-founded the band Alvin Batiste & The Jazztronauts, and then found his home when Batiste offered him the chance to guest with our dear late, great Ellis Marsalis Jr, who immediately began having Harper as a vocalist with his band for the next several years. Roderick's next move would be to New York City, where he performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and was soon sharing stages with likes of Max Roach, Dizzy Gillespie, Jon Hendricks, Shirley Horn, and Nicholas Payton, who would end up producing Harper's second album, "The Essence Of..." Then after spending nearly a decade in Chicago, Harper returned to New Orleans in 2015 and released two more albums over the next 5 years, illustrating his versatility as a vocalist ten-fold, bringing his discography to five albums and his repertoire to a seemingly infinite dance between limitless genres, including jazz, soul and R&B hits. Roderick recently presented the official Record Release concert for his 6th studio album, "2702."  Released this Spring, "2702" offers a variety of "jazz" aka BAM (Black American Music), including the already-charting singles "Genuine" and "Slice of Life."
