NOLA Funk Fest Presents
Rock The Rafters: A Cajun & Creole Celebration

  • Lost Bayou Ramblers

    Country

The Grammy award winning Lost Bayou Ramblers’ evolution as a perversely progressive band rooted in Cajun traditions continues to excite, challenge, and redefine both genre expectations as well as cultural preconceptions. Founded in 1999 by brothers Andre and Louis Michot, the last 5 years have brought LBR a feature on Jack White’s American Epic, score contributions to the Oscar nominated film Beasts of the Southern Wild, a Grammy award for their latest album "Kalenda" and tours with both Arcade Fire and the Violent Femmes. Lost Bayou Ramblers stands at the crosscurrents of Louisiana culture by inhabiting the gray area between Cajun and Creole, convention and innovation, mystery and a revelation, experimenting and growing the show to what it's become today: an eclectic mix of modern sounds and rhythms with ancient Cajun melodies and lyrics.  World Café says “The Grammy-winning group plays a revved-up version of Cajun music, shot through with punk energy and psychedelic fuzz.”
  • CC Adcock & The Lafayette Marquis

    Country

Being raised in southwest Louisiana with zydeco bursting out of every juke joint has given C.C. Adcock a different take on standard four-bar blues. The Lafayette-raised Adcock, a guitarist, singer, and songwriter, doesn't play straight-ahead blues; his music is heavily laden with unconventional blues-rock melodies and zydeco rhythms. The many thousands of miles he has logged touring with the likes of Bo Diddley and Stanley Dural (better known as Buckwheat Zydeco) show through in his playing, which is fiery, intense, and most of all, danceable.
  • Joel Savoy

    Traditional Cajun

Founder of the Louisiana-based label Valcour Records, Joel Savoy is a two-time GRAMMY-winning recording engineer and record producer as well as a ten-time GRAMMY nominee. He served seven years as Artistic Director of the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, Washington, and as program manager for the National Council for Traditional Arts program National Treasures. He currently builds Cajun accordions under his father’s Acadian brand in Eunice from where he also operates his recording studio “Valcour Records.”

Joel is a versatile fiddler and guitarist and he has played and taught music around the world for the last 25 years. He has worked with the best in southwest Louisiana as well as with folks like John Fogerty, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Earle, and T-Bone Burnett, although most often he’s seen with his brother Wilson and their parents in the Savoy Family Cajun Band.
