Lineup:
Rob Derke – saxophone
Mike Eckroth – piano
Carlo De Rosa – bass
Victor Lewis – drums

Considered “among the best soprano saxophonists in jazz today with a wealth of ideas and an inherent artistry” (JazzTimes), Rob Derke returns to the Iridium with a quartet aptly referred to as “a lesson in group interplay” (Downbeat) that continually produces “a galvanizing set” (All About Jazz). Rob is New York City born and bred, learning from and performing with a venerable who’s who in jazz in the US and internationally for over 20 years. Working closely with co-leader and bassist Carlo De Rosa, “an uncategorizable force of nature,” the Rob Derke Quartet has reached the radio charts with their “compositional inventiveness” and “an irrepressible energy.” Tonight’s quartet also includes Victor Lewis (the incomparable multi-talented drummer heard with everyone from Stan Getz to Kenny Baron to Mike Stern and Cecil McBee); and former John Scofield pianist Mike Eckroth rounds out the group with a “technical wizardry that captures the true spirit of the music with exquisite dynamics and subtle expression.”www.robderke.com
