*Happy Hour Free Concert Series* featuring Richard Moten

Richard Moten is a seasoned New Orleans bassist whose musical journey began at age seven with piano, transitioning to electric bass in his early teens. By 15, he was performing professionally with the William Houston Youth Orchestra, playing dance, R&B, and Top 40 hits—a role he held for two decades. During this time, he collaborated with various bands, including the funk group Chocolate Milk.

In 1989, Moten embraced jazz, switching to upright bass and immersing himself in the New Orleans jazz scene. He found his niche with a trio that continues to perform at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans.  His versatility has led to performances at major festivals like the French Quarter Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and Satchmo SummerFest, as well as international tours in Europe and Japan.  Moten's dedication to his craft and adaptability across genres have solidified his reputation as a respected figure in the jazz community.
