Labeled "sly, funky, & tuneful" by New York Music Daily, and "edgy, raucous, fun, and first rate" by KBCS Radio (Washington) , the two-time New England Music Award nominee Revolutionary Snake Ensemble again brings their annual Mardi Gras Party to Scullers Jazz Club for 2 shows! RSE’s rousing performances have become a local Mardi Gras tradition, repeatedly selling out, with music that "brilliantly bridges the booty/brain barrier!" - Boston Globe.
Joining the group on trumpet will be very special guest Jason Palmer. Palmer has performed with such notables as Roy Haynes, Wynton Marsalis' Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ravi Coltrane, Jeff Ballard, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Roy Hargrove, and Lewis Nash, and was cited in Downbeat Magazine as one of the "Top 25 trumpeters of the future". Palmer has toured in over 40 countries with saxophonists Mark Turner, Greg Osby, Grace Kelly, Allison Miller, and Matana Roberts, and has been a featured guest artist on multiple projects in Portugal, Mexico, Canada, and Russia.
And RSE will again be joined by electrifying vocalist and New Orleans legend Henri Smith, who's storied history in New Orleans includes a stint dj-ing on WWOZ radio, numerous appearances as emcee at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and performances with Kermit Ruffins and Ellis Marsalis!
For this performance, RSE will be co-founder & leader Ken Field (alto sax), Tom Hall (tenor sax), Dave Harris (trombone & tuba), Blake Newman (bass), and Phil Neighbors (drums). “… this Boston-area band puts premium on Mardi Gras-style rhythm … but also pursues a sinuous, writhing counterpoint, in ways that justify the band’s name.” - NY Times
