Reggae Sunday: Dakeye

Dakeye was born in the town of Marabella in Trinidad and Tobago. He grew up listening to Calypso, Reggae and American Soul music. Dakeye eventually moved to Houston Texas, and created the acclaimed reggae band Judah Star. They released an EP titled, Human Marketplace in 1983.
Shortly after Dakeye formed Detour Posse. The band released a 14 song album titled, Chariots in the Sky (2001). Dakeye has released numerous well received singles like, Turn It Up, I Will Follow Jah. Dakeye has also released several solo singles with famed producers, namely Fabian Cooke of the Ziggy Marley Band, Kevin Brown of Citizen K Productions and Lamar “Riff Raff” Brown on the song, Human Marketplace.
Dakeye is a smooth and soulful singer with a wide vocal range, his songs are often about love, loss and social justice. He is an explosive live performer. He’s toured extensively throughout the United States, Trinidad, Jamaica and the Caribbean, Asia and the Middle East. Dakeye has toured with and opened for many musicians, including Ziggy and Damian Marley, Barrington Levy, Sean Paul, Vaughn Benjamin of Midnight, Akea Beka, Richie Stevens, Lady Saw, Wayne Wonder, Shinehead, Half Pint, Luciano, Sugar Minott, Eek-A-Mouse, Mr. Vegas and many more, when they toured the U.S West Coast.
