Regattabar Presents Berklee Courtyard Series: Sofia Almeida Quartet

  • Sofia Almeida Quartet

    Sofia Almeida Quartet

    Jazz

Born in Madeira, Sofia Almeida is a Portuguese singer, composer, and rising voice in the global jazz scene. Currently completing her Bachelor of Music in performance at Berklee College of Music, Almeida is part of both the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice. She has studied under the mentorship of jazz legends including Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Patricia Zárate, and Kris Davis, among others.
As an ambassador for the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, Almeida has received support for her studies, alongside multiple merit-based awards at Berklee. In 2021, she had the honor of performing with the Grammy-winning Generation Gap Jazz Orchestra, led by Steven Feifke and Bijon Watson, at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston.
During her time at Berklee, Almeida has participated in numerous large-scale productions and performed in ensembles alongside jazz greats such as Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade, and Tigran Hamasyan.
“And then Sofia Almeida stands on the stage and dares to do something. She grabs John Coltrane’s ‘Resolution’ and makes the song explode with her singing.” —Christopher Giese, JazzWise magazine, on Almeida’s performance at the Funchal Jazz Festival 2022
