Quest?onmarc
Quest?onmarc
Dance
quest?onmarc is the moniker of New York based multimedia artist and Qween Beat affiliate, Mars Mason which satisfies many declarations in three succinct syllables. There is the initial air of curiosity, a daring and invigorating spirit they wholly welcome in their performances and encourage in their sonic experience as both a daring selector and dedicated producer.
They also maintain a desired effect of public anonymity, appearing almost as a chameleon. Expressing themselves fearlessly as a non-binary individual of trans experience. As a career raver, weaving in and out of functions as nimbly and oft inconspicuously as they navigate culture clashes on the decks, satisfies their lifelong passion for creatively crafting club-kid looks.
Their path from the dance floor to the stage began after stumbling into a chance meeting where the underground club scene and ballroom collided, a club night with ballroom elements by way of Azealia Banks’ Mermaid Ball in 2012. What wasn’t anticipated was the voguing competition that ensued as a tiebreaker, during the competition MC’d by Jack Mizrahi and DJ’d by MikeQ. They were but a novice at this point but had caught wind of enough youtube clips of the marvelous Wonder Woman of Vogue to fake it for a four count. Somehow they came out on top w/ some encouragement from the crowd. However, this victory couldn’t be left to chance… with the crown and the prize, they followed Jack Mizrahi’s suggestion to attend one of the upcoming Vogue Knights parties where future mentor, MikeQ was a weekly resident DJ. And it’s history from there. quest?onmarc became the culture they discovered, and is today an integral part of the Ballroom and Vogue scene of New York.
Finding refuge in the movement and music, quest?onmarc has somehow fallen in with found family under the tutelage of two of the most capable legends in the global ballroom scene. The specularly talented MikeQ and Amazon Mother Leiomy. Their relationship to these individuals has enriched their grasp of expression and razor-sharp form.
Quest?onmarc’s aim is to break the barriers of ballroom and bring the sound forward into new, un-foraged territory through their experimental application.
