“Punk is coming! Punk is coming!”
One group of punks who wanted to start their own tribute band to celebrate “the greatest punk band ever,” fittingly also originate from New York – indeed just a thirty minutes or so drive away from Queens in a hamlet located on Long Island known as Bethpage.
A look at the band’s set list shows a near thirty strong catalogue which covers various stages of the Ramones’ illustrious career. Those younger fans, whose formative years were in the 1980s and 90s, will relish such tracks as:
“I Wanna Live”
“We Want The Airways”
“Bonzo Goes To Bitburg”
“Mama’s Boy”
“R.A.M.O.N.E.S”
Devotees will undoubtedly appreciate the picks of:
“We’re A Happy Family”
“I Don’t Care”
“Rockaway Beach”
“I Just Want To Have Something To Do”
Of course, a Ramones’ cover set would not be complete without some choices from that seminal debut album and listeners will not be disappointed with no less than six songs selected :
“Beat On The Brat”
“Judy Is A Punk”
“Havana Affair”
“Loudmouth”
“53rd and 3rd”
...and inevitably the punk anthem of “Blitzkrieg Bop”
The Rawmones will continue to keep playing, not only to keep the memory of Don Don alive but also for Joey, Tommy, Johnny and Dee Dee who were instrumental in shaping punk music back in the 1970s and one of the most influential American bands of all time.
