    Rare Essence, aka The Wickedest Band Alive, is Washington’s premier Go- Go band for over four decades. Mentored by the Godfather of Go-Go as young teens, Rare Essence would be one of Chuck Brown’s earliest, and have remained his most enduring, progeny, with a consistently combustible live show honed through countless performances They have built a devoted fan base that spans multiple generations.

    Originated in the mid ‘70s by the late Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown, Go-Go links songs together over percussion breakdowns—a raw, non-stop party groove fueled by congas, cowbells and timbales, with call and response interactions that obliterated divisions between a band that doesn't stop playing and audience that won't stop dancing.

    Dubbed “The Wickedest Band Alive” by rap pioneer Doug E. Fresh, who has collaborated with Rare Essence, one of many artists to incorporate Go- Go's percolating percussion, and some of its key players, into their own recordings.

    Go-Go thrives live and that’s where reputations, and legacies, are cemented. As the Washington Post noted in a review, “....this band has performed more than 5,000 times. Like so many Rare Essence concerts, it’s easy to believe you’re seeing the best one.”

    Northeast Groovers also known as “N.E.G.” made their musical debut on the Go-Go scene in 1988 in the small town of Northeast Washington, DC. It was the imagination of Khari Pratt whose dream was destined to become reality. Khari’s motivation, passion, drive and a determination is what led to the birth N.E.G. The band was founded with the support of Khari’s parents Mrs. Pearl Pratt and Mr. Henry Pratt. N.E.G

    was inspired by the founding father of the Go-Go “Chuck Brown” who in fact paved the way laying the blueprint. N.E.G. studied the blueprint and took Go-Go to a whole new level. As the years have gone by the band members with in Northeast Groovers Band have changed over time. The band was able to find the perfect conglomeration of musically inclined talented individuals that would then lead the band to success.

    In 1990, Northeast Groovers recorded their first studio album entitled “Northeast Crankin.” Since then, Northeast Groovers has released several albums titled Straight from the Basement, N.E.G. Jams, Northeast Coming, and Northeast on Fire. In addition, N.E.G. also released several original hit radio singles such as Booty Call, Tha Water, and Van Damme. Northeast Groovers went on to be featured in publications such as Billboard and Word Up Magazine to name a few. N.E.G. has had the pleasure of performing with national artist such as Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, Black Street, Wreckx-n-Effect, Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth, Doug E Fresh, Method Man, Redman, Young Joc, Scarface, Mad Lion, Supercat, Lost Boys, and many more...

    Northeast Groovers has now settled into a new chapter and is on the quest to take Go- Go to the next plateau with their new smash hits “Dukes Up" and "Poke It Out”. N.E.G. is dedicated to creating quality music to represent the official music of Washington, DC., Go-Go the sound of the city.
