  • Fatso Jetson

    Fatso Jetson

    Rock

Fatso Jetson was formed in Palm Desert, CA, in 1994 and are often credited as one of the fathers of the desert strain of stoner rock made most famous by their slightly younger neighbors Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age. This might be strange considering that the genre was in full swing at the time of Fatso Jetson's inception. The reason for the group's immense stoner credibility is that key members of the group played in seminal local "desert" bands Across the River, Yawning Man, and the Sort of Quartet: each of them being groups that the high school aged Kyuss members would frequently see perform at parties. While musically similar to some of their stoner brethren, Fatso Jetson incorporate a broader variety of musical influences that includes punk, blues, jazz and surf music. That is not to say that the band isn't capable of dishing out supremely heavy riffs.. Certainly grounded in dense hard rock, Fatso Jetson experiment with many musical textures, angular instrumental epics, and bizarre lyrics to create a punk, blues art rock all their own.

When guitarist/vocalist Mario Lalli and cousin/bassist Larry Lalli kept bumping into drummer Tony Tornay at desert parties and at the Lallis' own club, "Rhythm & Brews" located in the desert town of Indio CA, the trio decided to start playing together and have remained as a unit since. After performing with former Black Flag guitarist and SST Records' owner Greg Ginn's band, Fatso Jetson were offered a chance to record for Ginn's legendary influencial SST label. In 1995, the group recorded their debut "Stinky Little Gods" and followed that up in 1997 with "Power of Three" -- both discs appeared on SST.
Brant Bjork(Brant Bjork & the Bro's,Kyuss,Fu Manchu) briefly joined up as second guitarist and appeared on two 7" releases . The band then teamed up with Bongload Records, who then released Fatso Jetson's third full-length disc, "Toasted", in 1998. The album was recorded and produced by Chris Goss (Masters of Reality.Queens of the Stone Age).
Guitarist and old friend Gary Arce (Sort of Quartet, Yawning Man) joined the band to record thier fourth LP "Flames for All" in 2000 for Artist Frank Kozik's Mans Ruin Label .
Fatso Jetson also contributed to "The Desert Sessions" releases that Josh Homme (Kyuss,Queens of the Stone Age) organized, bringing desert musicians and other creative like minded rock musicians together to collaborate. At these sessions Mario Lalli co-wrote two songs with Homme ("You think I aint worth a dollar but I feel like a Millionaire" and "Monster in the Parosol") these would eventualy make their way on to the Queens of the Stone Age albums "Rated R" and "Songs for the Deaf"
It was Homme's record lable Rekords Rekords that would release the next Fatso album in 2001 "Cruel and Delicious". For this session the band was joined by Vince Meghrouni (Bazooka, Mike Watt, BellRays) on Sax and harp adding a new dimention to Fatso's hard to pin sound. The band continues with this line up in 2009.

  • Chris Goss

    Chris Goss

    Rock

The 'stoner rock' boom of the early 21st century can largely be attributed to the group Kyuss, and their producer, Chris Goss, who worked with the group on the majority of their albums. Although he may be best known for his production efforts (as well as guesting on countless recordings by other artists), Goss is also the singer/guitarist of critically acclaimed retro rockers Masters of Reality. The Los Angeles-based group has steadily switched members over the years, but has issued albums on a somewhat regular basis since the late '80s - 1988's Blue Garden, 1990's self-titled release, 1993's Sunrise on the Sufferbus, 1997's How High the Moon: Live at the Viper Room, 1999's Welcome to the Western Lounge, and 2001's Deep in the Hole. During the early '90s, Goss began producing other bands, including pop metallists Kik Tracee, and more importantly, Kyuss. With the emergence of bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, interest in the plodding and murky sounds of Black Sabbath began to interest a whole new generation of fans - and in turn, cleared the way for bands such similarly styled bands as Kyuss.

Goss began working with the group for their sophomore release, 1992's Blues for the Red Sun, an album which received great acclaim upon its release, but failed to translate into commercial success. Regardless, Goss' gloss-less production and the group's molten heavy music proved to be a fantastic union, as the album is often singled out as one of the most influential releases of the decade - especially on the aforementioned 'stoner rock' movement that would get underway a few years later. Goss continued working with Kyuss on such subsequent releases as 1994's Welcome to Sky Valley and 1996's …And the Circue Leaves Town, before the band's eventual split. Goss continued working with ex-Kyuss guitarist Josh Homme on his next group, Queens of the Stone Age - playing on their releases and producing their fine sophomore effort, 2000's R (as well as such QOTSA-related side projects as the Desert Sessions and Mondo Generator). As a direct result of his work with Kyuss, Goss has worked with a variety of other artists, including Stone Temple Pilots, Scott Weiland, Russell Crowe's 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, Screaming Trees, Mark Lanegan, The Flys, Fatso Jetson, and Ian Astbury, among others.

    Dance

Jesika von Rabbit is the hotly anticipated solo project of the LA Weekly's band of the year Gram Rabbit's lead singer.
Jesika, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin is stepping away from a ten year history with her wildly popular Joshua Tree, California based band, Gram Rabbit which was co-founded in 2003 with partner Todd Rutherford and later joined by esteemed producer Ethan Allen. Gram Rabbit garnered over 30 licenses for Film and Television projects as well a released six studio albums and a spawned a rabidly loyal fan base and international cult of followers know as the Royal Order of Rabbits.
Jesika Von Rabbit is on a new musical voyage with her solo project. Jesika is charting her course with a flood of fresh melodies that is a rising storm of edgy electro-pop rythyms and fiercely emotional lyrics with a dark heavy under current of her early punk rock roots and classical piano background.. (JVR) is a pansexual experiment in synth driven
blonde ambition. JVR's crossover dance anthems will force you to question your sexuality and compel you to dance your ass off while thinking about it..
One of the new tracks on jesika's roster(a group of songs she's referring to as Journey Mitchell) entitled "Gaydar" have the audience bobbing their heads to the lyric's "are you a little girl or a little boy? I'm a little gay be my little toy."
Song "Psychic Spice" is a cross between Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and a little B'52's.
She does a beautiful ballad version of Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop" which makes the crowd chuckle when they realize what the cover is...
With a Winter tour of live performances supporting her new material in the books and armed to the teeth with several
infectious new songs, Jesika's new material draws from themes of sexuality, strength and being able to poke fun at herself when the need arises. JVR's live shows are filled with a crew of colorful characters, specifically a pair of nympth-like blonde dancing twins who call themselves,The Grundles.
"Being able to make people laugh is an important craft for me as an artist. When I am on stage I like to put on an entertaining show, not just play through my songs."
JVR is currently working on a video for her song "Glamorous Misery", which sounds like Madonna meets Daft Punk and a dark-electro version of Garth Brook's "Friends in Low Places," which should amuse her audience in a tongue-in-cheek way but make them shake thier ass at the same time.. JVR is currently booking Southern California shows with plans to tour out further in the near future...
