    Rahkua

    Pop-Soul

Rahkua is a force to be reckoned with, known to captivate audiences and silence crowds within those first crucial moments of stepping to the mic. She has been singing since the age of 3 but really began to discover her sound and passion for music with the release of her singles "You Know (When I Hit the Scene)" and "Shake It Off" in 2011.

After graduating New York University with her BFA in Drama, Rahkua relocated to Los Angeles, CA where she began to further develop her sound. Her debut album, "Love, Loss, Lies" was released May 2013 and she has since performed all over LA including the House of Blues, Club Clobra, The Crest, Club Tatou and others. She also has opened for several artists, most notably CeeLo Green with Goodie Mob at Playhouse in Hollywood, Kellita Smith at Geisha House in Hollywood, and Travis Porter at Styles in her hometown of Jackson, MS.

Rahkua has always written her own music as well as for other artists. Her writing is the perfect synthesis of heartfelt honesty, daring surrealism, and outrageous cynicism while staying relatable and universally applicable. Rahkua's lyrical ability was recognized in her senior year at NYU where she co-wrote theme song "Da Kink" with Sweet Honey & the Rock member, Carol Maillard for internationally renown musical, "Da Kink in My Hair". She has been most inspired musically by Beyonce, Prince, Eminem, CeeLo, and Nina Simone as well as by myriad genres and languages (English - old & new, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, Swahili, etc.) that she has sung in all over the US and abroad.

A lady of sophistication and musicianship, Skyler Reed, was born a singer. From the time she could talk she would sing melodies. She started writing songs at the age of twelve, where her work was recognized in school competitions. She was a big dreamer and a curious little girl, with immense aspirations of being the next big thing. At a young age she had dreams of working with the best in the industry, and someday establishing her own record label. Since then her dreams have only grown bigger and better, and she has molded herself into the artist she is today.

Born Skyler Lynn Boardley in Wilmington Delaware, this artist was surrounded by music. During her early childhood, her mother, who had the gift of singing, made music an integral part of her life. She introduced her to the greats; such as, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, and Lauren Hill. She loved putting on shows with her childhood friend, where she would dance and sing for family and friends. She loved the music of Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, and Brandy. Her mother passed away when she was nine years old.

Skyler’s aunt and uncle, Jarvis and Monica Bailey adopted her after the sudden passing of her mother and she moved to Virginia, which she refers to as home. They believed in every outrageous dream this young star had and thinking out of the box was the norm. During this phase of her life, she focused more on expressing herself through songwriting. She spent every free moment writing songs or laying on the floor listening to music. Not a day went by without the sounds of music in her ears.

Skyler has been committed to performing, and growing up was a musical journey. There was never a rest, a break, or an interlude from music. She continuously made her presence known by participating in school talent shows, joining church choirs and praise teams, and even performing at family functions. She went on to receive a Bachelors of Music from Virginia State University. Skyler’s talent was groomed the most under the coaching of her professor, Dr. Lisa-Edwards Burrs. She took heart in the value of being classically trained, while still staying true to her music by performing continuously at school events and functions.

Since her graduation Skyler Reed has relocated to Los Angeles, and is making her mark as a rising artist. She has become involved with an opera company and often sings at live artist showcases. She is a hardworking and dedicated artist, whose focus is to share music with the world.
