QWEIRDO is a showcase of Chicago’s top gay comedians and improvisers coming together to make you laugh in the way that only your gay best friend (or a drunk Jessica Lange) can. The host improv team is ThoraBirch, featuring Drew Anderson, Derek Van Barham, and Thom Gaughan. They will invite different gay groups, stand ups, and solo acts to perform with them each night. Additional performers include: Gayco, Wes Perry, Tim Paul, Candy Lawrence, Rob Anderson, Ike Holter, Witch Hazel (to name a fabulous few).
In honor of June being Gay Pride Month, a portion of all ticket sales will go to Howard Brown Health Center. The Howard Brown Health Center is one of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) organizations and serves more than 16,000 adults and youth each year in its diverse health and social service programs. ABOUT YOUR HOST, ThoraBirch:
ThoraBirch knows that there’s beauty in the improv breakdown. The gentlemen play with genre and style to explore complex relationships and dark, dysfunctional characters. Thora offers a unique, alternative perspective: characters burst into song and monologue, players know their campy pop-culture references, and not everyone makes it out of the scenes alive. The group has performed all around the city including Second City’s Donny Skybox Theater, The Playground, iO, Center on Halsted, and the Chicago Improv Festival.
