  • TV GIRL

    TV GIRL

    Music

On the surface, TV Girl is a sunny, throwback splash of ‘60s French pop and southern California soul. Yet, under that shiny veneer lays a dark heart, beating with sharp wit and cynical alienation, and the music is all the more alluring for it. TV Girl, comprised of Brad Petering, Jason Wyman, and Wyatt Harmon, was formed in 2010 by Petering as an outlet to blend the love of Spector-esque girl-group pop with an emerging interest in hip-hop. Featuring shimmering vocals and sampled beats, the self-titled debut EP of the same year turned heads online immediately; the group’s lush vintage rhythms and timeless pop hooks were even making waves on the BBC.

In 2014, TV Girl unveiled their first full-length, the critically acclaimed French Exit. The album keeps true to the TV Girl charm with a bevy of electronic samplings infused throughout light and airy guitars, whirring organs, and ethereal vocals. Their 2016 follow up, Who Really Cares, finds the band doubling down on their heavy use of samples. Combining the aesthetic of 90’s hip hop with modern psychedelic pop, Who Really Cares offers a glimpse into the psyche of a love scorned twenty-something.”

TV Girl’s latest album, Death Of A Party Girl, sustains the dream pop, neo-psychedelic feel of previous work. Petering delivers prosaic storytelling in third-person narration, recounting tales of wistful, romantic flings and mini-dramas starring various shades of the archetypal manic pixie dream girl. The songs are echoing and surreal, cut with samples of dialogue from movies and radio shows that convey a grainy, vintage feel.

  • The Frights

    The Frights

    Surf Rock

A couple of months after graduating from high school, Mikey Carnevale (vocals/guitar) and Richard Dotson (bass) got together as The Frights to play a one off 30 minute set as sort of a joke. The feeling they got from the crowd in their hometown of San Diego inspired them to become a "real" band almost in spite of themselves. Along the way, they recruited Marc Finn (drums) and released You Are Going To Hate This (produced by Zac Carper of FIDLAR) in February 2016. Jordan Clark (guitar) added to the band's musical prowess in the ensuing year of touring around North America. The fearsome foursome has now teamed up with Epitaph Records for the August 24th release of their new album, Hypochondriac (with Zac Carper again at the helm). 2018 looks to be a year filled with drinks, laughs, tears, miles in the van and on a plane and plenty of hours on the stage for The Frights.

  • No Vacation

    No Vacation

    Indie Rock

No Vacation began in early 2015, and quickly received attention for the nostalgic bedroom-pop sounds off of their debut mixtape, Amo XO, and surf-rock single, Dræm Girl. A few months following the release of their second mixtape, Summer Break Mixtape, No Vacation went on an indefinite hiatus. Sabrina Mai, Marisa Saunders, Nat Lee, and Harrison Spencer officially reassembled in 2017 after playing shows under various names and a few line-up changes.

Since their reunion, No Vacation has released two singles, “Mind Fields” and “Yam Yam”, off of their new EP, Intermission, which was released by Topshelf Records in November 2017. As they transition out of San Francisco, No Vacation will bring the novice “wavy-gravy dream-pop” sounds of Intermission to Brooklyn.
