Patti Zlaket is having more than a comeback—she’s enjoying a remarkable and resurgent second chance. Her meteoric 2025—including a three-part deluxe-edition reissue series of her remastered catalog by Meridian (ECR Music Group), and the release of the first single from her forthcoming new record Dance Again—has brought her to a pivotal and thrilling moment. She’s won a newfound audience, newfound success on tour, and newfound recognition in the press. Now, she releases Dance Again’s aptly-titled second single, “Second Chance At Love,” on January 21st. Produced by Tariqh Akoni (Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Weezer) and featuring an A-list array of session musicians including the inimitable Lee Sklar (Phil Collins, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt), this new single highlights Zlaket’s unique artistry, character, and authentic intimacy.
No Transmission writes, “Zlaket never left the conversation—she just took her time to say exactly what she meant. [Her] voice holds the kind of emotional weight that only time and experience can lend.” PopFad hails Zlaket’s first single as, “A graceful and powerful return…a confident and heartfelt statement from an artist whose voice has grown richer with every chapter of her journey, proving that some messages never lose their relevance.” PowHer Sound simply declares, “For Zlaket—pianist, songwriter, traveler, lawyer, idealist—this [moment] is not a comeback. It’s a new beginning.”
It was Lee Sklar who lit the fire under Zlaket to make this new record, in fact. “One evening last year, I’d watched Immediate Family, the brilliant documentary about The Section—Lee Sklar, Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, and Russ Kunkel,” explains Zlaket. “It was like watching a story about the soundtrack of my life. A light was turned on in me, and I couldn’t stop thinking about the film and those players. And, my life in music. Though I was performing regularly, I’d taken a long break from recording. That night, I knew the break was over.”
Zlaket did something that reignited her musical life—she reached out to Sklar and commended him on the film, thanking him for the decades of music. Unexpectedly, he reached back. “When the door of opportunity opens, you walk through,” says Zlaket. “So, I decided to go for broke and asked him to listen to a new song I’d yet to record. I told him if he liked it, I’d love to record it with him.” He liked it. Thus began the year-long process of recording Dance Again with Zlaket working alongside Sklar, Akoni, and stellar session players from Zlaket’s past and present.
Written by Zlaket, “Second Chance At Love” is of singular importance to the artist. “We have a lot to learn from the natural world, and I think it’s our duty to do all that we can to cherish and protect it. I volunteer with a local shelter, and I’m constantly and consistently amazed by the resiliency of these creatures,” says Zlaket. “They’ve all been through so much, but their capacity for love is endless. I wanted to write a song about the experience of working with these incredible animals, but I decided that the story was best told from the dog’s perspective. My hope is that it helps brings awareness to the worldwide crisis of overcrowded animal shelters and rescue organizations.”
A pianist since she was seven and a songwriter since she was a teenager growing up in Tucson, Arizona, Zlaket graduated from USC with a BA in Theatre. She recorded her first album in Los Angeles and later moved to Nashville before returning to Southern California. Zlaket would go on to tour the United States and the U.K., establish herself as a premiere commercial jingle singer, release a storied catalog—and graduate from law school.
“Stepping back into my music is like coming home,” says Zlaket. “I’ve lived a lifetime since my last record, and yet it feels like no time has passed. I am so excited to share this new offering, because it is exactly who and where I am in this moment.”
Patti Zlaket’s new single “Second Chance At Love” is out January 21st on Meridian (ECR Music Group).
