Description
Smomid is a project by Nick Demopoulos, who is a performer, musician and instrument builder. Smomid only utilizes instruments he has designed and built to perform interactive computer music. The name is derived from an acronym of his primary instrument: “String Modeling Midi Device.” Smomid music often features glitchy and scattered beats, sampling, abstract textures, ambient spaces, and improvisation. Smomid music draws on many varied influences and creates bizarre juxtapositions with deft sonic versatility, with samples of heavy beats, Gregorian Monks chanting and Taiko drum sounds all coexisting comfortably.
Woodhead formed in 2012 under suspicious circumstances and has been colluding in one way or another in NYC ever since. With Yana Davydova’s otherworldly guitar and voice, Dmitry Ishenko’s big bass tone, Rob Mitzner’s impeccable drumming, and Eugene Muzica's mysterious keyboard sounds, they are an unstoppable live freight train, always seeming like they might be going off the rails, but they never do. But please don't believe me, observe this commercial: https://vimeo.com/265857302 Woodhead is currently recording their third full length album at BC Studios with Producer Martin Bisi.
OTRO LADO is a dance-punk trio from NYC formed by Cody Ross Rex, Adam See, and Taylor Christoffel. The group features a minimalistic arrangement of bass guitar, vocals, and drum kit augmented with electronic components and samples. OTRO LADO originated in 2014 with initial inspiration coming from Liquid Liquid, Chk Chk Chk, and ESG. Over time, their sound evolved to incorporate elements of kraut-rock, afro-beat, and house music. While their sonic palette continues to expand, OTRO LADO's sound remains anchored in a core philosophy of minimalism and groove-oriented improvisation. The length and feel of particular songs varies from performance to performance. Their debut EP is currently available on Spotify and Apple Music.
