It’s Oscar® time and that can only mean one thing...the return of San Francisco Chronicle film critic emeritus and columnist Mick LaSalle for his annual Napa Valley appearance at 7:00 PM. LaSalle will discuss this year’s crop of Oscar® contenders, his picks, pans and predictions, and will take questions from the audience, including, "Who will win Best Picture?".

The evening will be moderated by our very own local celebrity, Barry Martin from Lucky Penny and Host of "Wine Country Live" on 99.3 The Vine.

IN ADDITION: $2/Ticket is being donated to wildlife relief affected by the wildfires in LA. The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned native wildlife and need help during this huge influx of wildlife affected https://www.wwccoc.org/
 
BLUE NOTE NAPA is on the 1st floor of the historic Napa Valley Opera House and is an intimate 180-seated live music club and restaurant. World-class and local Bay Area artists perform here. Before and during the show, we offer a sophisticated dinner menu and a wide selection of wines and cocktails to order.

    Mick LaSalle is the film critic emeritus for The San Francisco Chronicle with a Sunday column. In the late 1990s, he the on-air film critic for the ABC-TV affiliate in San Francisco, KGO. He is the author of Complicated Women:  Sex and Power in Pre-Code Hollywood (2000), a history/critical study of the actresses who worked during the pre-censorship "pre-Code'' era of 1929-1934. Liz Smith called it “a brilliant work” and film historian Scott Eyman called it “a breakthrough work of film scholarship.” The book was followed by Dangerous Men:  Pre-Code Hollywood and the Birth of the Modern Man (2002); The Beauty of the Real: What Hollywood Can Learn from Contemporary French Actresses (2012); and Dream State: California in the Movies (2021).
    LaSalle wrote and co-produced the Complicated Women documentary for Turner Classic Movies, which was narrated by Jane Fonda. He has written introductions to several books, including The Enduring Star, Peter Cowie's biography of Joan Crawford (Rizzoli, 2009). He has taught in Stanford University's Continuing Studies department since 2004.

    Barry Martin came to Napa in 1986 to work for KVON/KVYN. After starting out as a DJ on The Vine, he went on to become Program Director and Operations Manager for both stations until 2001. In that year, Barry began working as the Public Information Officer for the Napa River Flood Project, and continued as morning show host on KVON until 2003. He spent the next 13 years doing public information, including nine years as the Community Outreach for the City of Napa.  Meanwhile, in 2009 he Co-Founded the theatre company Lucky Penny Productions with Taylor Bartolucci, and together they produce plays and musicals at the Lucky Penny Community Arts Center in Napa. Barry is also an author of plays and has had his work chosen twice for short-play festivals. He is the father of two Napa-raised kids, and has three grandchildren.
