The always charming ORNERY LITTLE DARLINGS released their debut LP, O is for Ornery last year and received praise from the Chicago Tribune – “it’s smart, draws upon many influences including some operatic howls” – and Time Out Chicago – “they deviate from the usual guitar-drums duo template, touching on new wave, girl groups and rockabilly rather than simply offering more gutter blues or garage-rock.”  The group has received comparisons to acts from the MEKONS to the SILVER JEWS to the B-52s and while they all fit, simple comparisons don't do justice to the clever lyrics and surprising male/female vocal delivery of JASON EWERS and EMMI CHEN.  Featuring lead howler and guitar slayer of Detroit garage rockers, THE VON BONDIES, JASON STOLLSTEIMER’s new outfit, THE HOUNDS BELOW injects a healthy dose of post-rock guitars, handclaps and anthemic choruses into the new tracks found on the quartet’s new, self-titled LP.  We’re pleased to welcome them here for the first time before they hit the road with THE HEAVY this fall.  This past spring local pop-soaked, guitar-based, saw-playing indie rock quartet TIN TIN CAN released their debut LP Strange Vibrations – an effort Loud Loop Press has praised for vocalist JUSTIN TURNER’s “smoky, delicate croon” delivering the goods on “warbling indie-pop layered with instrumental nuances on some sweet and dusty anthems. Local scuzzy trio DIVINO NINO open tonight’s rock & roll party.

Ornery Little Darlings deviates from the usual guitar-drums duo template, touching on new wave, girl groups and rockabilly rather than simply offering more gutter blues or garage-rock. It's a welcome change of pace, and impressively effective, too.
