    NRBQ

    Americana

NRBQ is Terry Adams, Scott Ligon, Casey McDonough, and John Perrin. “NRBQ” stands for New Rhythm and Blues Quartet. The band’s music, a rollicking blend of everything from stomping rockabilly to Beatles-influenced pop to Thelonious Monk-inspired jazz, has attracted fans as diverse as Elvis Costello, Penn & Teller, R.E.M., SpongeBob SquarePants, Ian McLagan, She & Him, Wilco, Widespread Panic, Nick Lowe, and indie-rock band Whitney. NRBQ songs have inspired cover versions by Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Darlene Love, and Dave Edmunds, among many others. In addition, the group served as the unofficial "house band" for The Simpsons for the Season 10-12. NRBQ has released a series of critically-acclaimed albums in recent years, among them Keep This Love Goin’ (2011), Brass Tacks (2014), and last year’s 5-disc, 50-year retrospective, High Noon. Of the brand new Happy Talk EP, the Nashville Scene says, “…ties the pursuit of eternal youth to the idea of timeless rock ‘n’ roll.” As the song says, “You’ve got to have a dream, if you don’t have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true?”

    The Jackpot Club

    Rockabilly

When does something that by first appearances looks or seems retro, actually become a new and different thing altogether? It’s hard to do, and believe me people have tried with varying degrees of success. But, that is just what is happening with a band out of Orange County California, THE JACKPOT CLUB!

By first appearances THE JACKPOT CLUB would seem like any other ‘rockabilly’ band. Take a twangy guitar and an upright bass and mix in a swingin’ drummer, salt to taste, etc. But, after listening to TJC take the crowd through a set or two of their music you begin to realize that this is much more than just a ‘rockabilly’ band! No other trio would take the crowd (in one set, mind you) from bar-room rock-n-roll of NRBQ to Peggy Lee’s ‘Fever‘! Who would dare move from the Las Vegas swing of Sam Butera to Nick Lowe's punky power-pop to Louis Jordan's rhythm and boogie? THE JACKPOT CLUB dares, and does!

Many bands show up to play music, But nobody entertains like THE JACKPOT CLUB!

THE JACKPOT CLUB was hatched from the semi-fertile mind of Vocalist/Guitarist Andy Winston. A true Rock & Roll veteran (Citizen Fear, The Tickets, 'Lectric Chairs, MOJOMASTER), Andy was raised around the swingin’ sounds of Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima and Count Basie before discovering the sound of the electric guitar. And it was only after his dreams of being ‘the next Ted Nugent’ waned (thank goodness!), that Andy began to cut his rock-n-roll teeth during the punk heyday of 79-81. His band Citizen Fear (see Killed By Death #13) played the legendary Southern California punk rock clubs of the day. The 1980’s and 90’s saw Andy playing over 1,500 shows with Orange County power-pop stars The Tickets, including recording the cassette-only release “Make A Record” (recently re-released on CD by Brewery Records).
But in spite of this long and storied history, Andy felt something was missing. Something was calling - something primal and rootsy. The idea for a new band began to form in his mind, almost against his will. His dream, you ask? To have a band with the power of punk but the swing of jump-blues. Could he reach back to a time when songs had energy and excitement, but keep an edge that would remain relevant to today’s audiences? As you can see, there are a lot of ‘revivalist’ and ‘fashionable’ rockabilly bands out there, but Andy couldn’t and wouldn’t play that game. “The filter through which I live music didn’t stop at 1959. It continues through the electric blues of the 60’s, the 1970’s punk and 90’s alternative eras, as much as it reaches back to the swing and blues of 1930’s, 40's and 50's”, Andy says. Did our hero acheive his dream? You'll need to see and hear THE JACKPOT CLUB for yourself!

THE JACKPOT CLUB is equally at home on the largest of concert stages, having opened shows for national acts such as Raul Malo, Lee Rocker, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, 3 Bad Jacks, Albert Lee, Jimmie Vaughan, Junior Brown, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and The Royal Crown Revue, as they are in the smallest of bars playing 3 sets of music and leading the drinking charge! Booking now for Spring/Summer of 2012, call or email now for priority dates for your club, concert or event. THE JACKPOT CLUB is ready, willing, and able to rock and roll all night…..for you and your customers!
