Nightcap Lecture Series: Tina Post on Coziness
Thu, 22 Jan, 7:00 PM CST
Three Top Lounge
1357 N Elston Avenue, Chicago, IL 60642
Description
Nightcap is a Thursday evening lecture series at Three Top Lounge featuring engaging talks and conversations with experts across disciplines. Presented in partnership with Chicago Humanities, Sexpectations, the Gray Center at the University of Chicago, and the MCA, each 40-minute session begins at 7pm and pairs thoughtful ideas with a well-made Three Top Lounge drink.
For the first installation in the Nightcap Lecture Series, we welcome author, researcher, and University of Chicago professor of English Literature Tina Post, who will be leading us through a talk on coziness. Tina Post’s present research concerns coziness as an aesthetic category—that is (after Sianna Ngai) as a socially informed perception of form that is wedded to a judgement about that form. Said differently, she’s interested in how we (culturally) come to name something as cozy in the first place, and what—and whom—comes to be written into or out of that category as a consequence. This talk will suggest some of the ways that coziness comes to be constituted, and proposes some problematics that inhere in that category.
