Nickel-A-Dance is a free, family-friendly jazz concert series in New Orleans, celebrating the city’s rich musical heritage. Founded in 1994, it features top local jazz musicians performing classic jazz, blues, and swing. Originally held at Café Brasil on Frenchmen Street, the series now takes place at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro on Sundays from 3:00–6:00 PM. The event is open to all ages and aims to make live jazz accessible to everyone. Celebrate the music and legacy of one of New Orleans’ most influential musical pioneers with Steve Pistorius and the Southern Syncopators in a special tribute to Jelly Roll Morton. Widely recognized as one of the key architects of early jazz, Jelly Roll Morton was a groundbreaking pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader whose music helped define the sound of New Orleans jazz in the early 20th century. His compositions—including classics such as “King Porter Stomp,” “Black Bottom Stomp,” and “Jelly Roll Blues”—remain an essential part of the jazz tradition. Led by acclaimed pianist and New Orleans traditional jazz authority Steve Pistorius, the Southern Syncopators bring Morton’s spirited compositions and distinctive musical language back to life. Expect an evening filled with hot jazz, swinging rhythms, intricate arrangements, and the unmistakable spirit of New Orleans.
