The band known as Volunteer Department.
What began as a home-recording project, VD has enjoyed a steadily rotating cast of 21 members for the first year and a half of its existence. Initially, in order to maximize the experience of automatic writing, shows were booked and the music/songs were written the week of the show. In the same week folks were recruited to learn the tunes and play the show. If not for dedicated people, this band’s music would not be possible - this point cannot be overstressed.
After months of mining, an instrumentation was chosen and sights were set on making a record. The instrumentation: Bass Drums Vibraphone Guitar and a slew of vocal harmonies. A collection of 8 songs, Safe House K exists to remind individuals that friendship, true friendship, cannot be forged without trust and communication, and that frustrating consequences await those who betray their personality.
Reaping the yields of aforementioned automatic writing protocols, a slew of material now waits to become records number 2, 3, and 4. With excitement, Volunteer Department opens its doors to those living outside the Neighborhood, inviting all who will listen to pick up the phone and place a call to someone they’ve been meaning to talk to for quite some time.
