With intimate, plainspoken, gorgeously sung songs drawing from American folk, roots and country traditions, Naomi Ashley has been stirring around the Chicago music scene for over 17 years. As a singer-songwriter, she is an accomplished lyricist whose body of work ranges from heartbreaking to hilarious. She received a 2013 grant from the Illinois Arts Council that partially funded the making of her most recent album “Trying to Fly” – released in October of 2013.
She has 3 previous albums to her name, the last “Another Year or So”(2007) was funded by a grant from the Chicago Artist Assistance Program and described by reviewers as “brilliant” and “one of the top albums of 2007”. She will be performing with her band - Cathie Van Wert on violin, Andon Davis on guitar, Michael Krayniak on bass and Paul Bivans on drums.
Naomi grew up on a farm outside the small town of Moville, Iowa. She resides in Chicago, Illinois.
