Description
MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO | PG 1h 44m
Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho continues to resonate with audiences after 35 years, exploring themes of masculinity and unrequited love through the eyes of characters living on the margins of society. Starring Keanu Reeves and the late River Phoenix as two street hustlers searching for meaning beyond the world of junkies, thieves and johns, My Own Private Idaho brilliantly captures the emotions of longing for queer love in a hopeless place. This trailblazing film, one of Van Sant’s most celebrated works, features some of his most arresting imagery and unforgettable dialogue. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Henry IV, My Own Private Idaho is a haunting tale highlighted by iconic, yet understated performances from its two leads. Also starring the late Udo Kier, My Own Private Idaho deserves to be seen on the big screen, so please join us at The Castro Theatre for a special 35MM presentation of this groundbreaking work of 90s queer cinema.
