Empty Bottle Presents is pleased as punch to welcome MUCCA PAZZA along with Santah to the Logan Square Auditorium on October 28th. Mucca Pazzza, the thirty-some piece group of rag tag musicians have put on some of the most astounding, chaotic and memorable shows we’ve seen with members perched atop the bar and cheerleaders literally swinging from the rafters. Their raucous, gypsy flavored brand of punk rock complete with a gaggle of trombones, trumpets, woodwinds, cheerleaders and freaks are sure to give you a life-changing performance, and we ain't mad or sorry about it.

Kicking off the evening will be the eclectic sounds of DJ Handclap.  On top of it all, host Madame Night will be leading us through a COSTUME CONTEST, a SAX-RIFICE, and a DANCE CONTEST!

MUCCA PAZZA assembled itself in the parking lot of a Chicago steel mill in 2004. Combining street theater and marching band instincts with avant-garde and rock band sensibilities, the twenty-odd piece ensemble built a cult following in the local underground music scene. Unconstrained by the rock venue format, MUCCA PAZZA marched into the city's world-class Millennium Park, becoming something of an unofficial Chicago mascot. MUCCA PAZZA went national just as the renegade marching band community blossomed into a full-fledged musical movement.

With mismatched uniforms, improvised marching maneuvers, speaker helmets and deconstructed cheer-leading, MUCCA PAZZA trail-blazed the 'weird as we wanna be' theatrical and visual aesthetic, while exhibiting real musical talent, playing mostly through-composed original compositions that tend to land somewhere between Zappa and Morricone. Atonal harmonies, odd time signatures and labyrinthine melodies are as likely to pop up as sweet brass chords, catchy whistlers and solid grooves.

Opening this even is SANTAH,  A psychedelic dream–pop band that has been successfully transplanted from the Champaign-Urbana music scene in recent years, featuring beautiful harmonies from the brother/sister guitarists that only those good ol' blood ties can provide. Their latest release, the Awwh Man EP, has the band creating synthesized sounds with sharp guitar/synth tones combined with stark moments that let the bass, drums, and singers get personal.

Mucca Pazza is the marching band that thinks it’s a rock ‘n roll band. The group is a collection of shameless band nerds wielding instruments of incongruous traditions, sometimes in competition, often in cooperation. Many of them played in traditional marching bands in high school. Others wanted to but couldn’t because they played violin or accordion, and no one had yet come up with the amplified ...helmet. With speakers strapped firmly to heads, their rambunctious live show has brought them to such acclaimed venues as the Late Show with Conan O’Brien, Lollapalooza, and a fleet of canoes floating down the Chicago River.

Their music skips from genre to unnameable genre, never settling in one place for long, but held together by the band’s unmistakable sound and irresistible energy. To their credit, they only have one march in their original repertoire, their other music includes zombie-mambo, snake-charmer-metal, gypsy-reggaeton, punk-classical, and some demented arrangements of Dmitri Shostakovich, Bela Bartok, and famed Egyptian composer Kemal El Tawil.

They play everywhere: from punk venues to orchestral halls, from public parks to public radio, from diva palaces to dive bars. Some have called them “circus punk,” some say they’re “geek love,” but no one calls them dull.
