MONOPHONICS
Since 2012, Monophonics has steadily built a reputation as a consistent band with a unique sound. Well crafted songs and records are matched by an energetic live performance. A heavenly signature style: Pure timeless heavy soul and warm textures of psychedelic rock. This is a band that revels in the past, taking you back to the stylings of the late 60s and early 70s, while always keeping its feet positioned in the present, looking ahead to the future.

Front man, vocalist & keyboardist Kelly Finnigan always leads with power. The renowned rhythm section starts with drummer Austin Bohlman along with Max Ramey on Bass and Aquilles Magaña on guitar. A dynamic horn section led by Ryan Scott on Trumpet with Jason Cressey playing Trombone always elevates the show & sound. This core group drips in cosmic fashion.

Sage Motel, Monophonics' fifth studio album released in 2022 on Colemine Records, once again captures the bands timeless psychedelic soul sound that they are known to produce. Met with an outstanding reception including nods from NPR Music, KCRW, BBC and Shindig, the record has thrived in multiple scenes. Since it’s release, ‘Sage Motel’ has found its way to millions of listeners online and seen thousands of records distributed and sold in record shops around the world.

THE SEXTONES
Founded in 2015, The Sextones built a devoted following across the West Coast before breaking out internationally with their self-released 2017 debut album Moonlight Vision, quickly finding success in Japan via P-Vine Records. Soon after, the band began touring extensively across the U.S. and Europe, quickly garnering international attention from soul music fans, record collectors, and critics alike. A steady roster of national performances cemented their reputation as critical and festival favorites, with Okayplayer describing Moonlight Vision as “The result of a Herculean work ethic, mixed with a Sherlock Holmes-esque attention to detail and a nuance that can be appreciated by true music lovers.” Live For Live Music detailed their musical approach, writing: “By taking classic sounds, modernizing them, and making them their own, the Sextones have carved out a niche for themselves within the modern funk and soul movement, and we are digging every second of it." And PopDust praised the group as “A glowing reminder of where music came from, and serves as a vehicle to light a fire under a new generation.”

With their recent signing to heavy-weight soul label, Record Kicks, the self-made heroes of soul begin a new chapter in their sonic journey, ready to scale new heights and plumb deep emotional depths in service of the genre they love.

    Funk

Monophonics have risen up again from their California studio Transistor Sound to offer the world a new album via indie label giants Colemine Records. Their new record entitled It’s Only Us, due this year reflects what they see as the current direction in the world, it’s an expression that leans on the theme of humanity, that strives to speak to a wide range of listeners.

It’s a message of unity, strength, resilience and acceptance. Often known as a group that is keen to create a heavier version of classic soul, Monophonics are back with their trademark sound while introducing a healthy dose of new and warm textures that will saturate speakers. It’s easy to hear their years of record digging and being under the influence of rare sides by Brothers of SoulRotary Connection or Dee Edwards.

Bay Area based psychedelic-soul band Monophonics announce their upcoming album It’s Only Us out early next year on Colemine Records..

The first single, “Chances” is an uptempo track that glowingly walks the line between deep, northern and sweet soul. The groups formula that fans have fallen in love with time and time again, is there once again knocking on your cerebral. Sitting atop drums that would make Pete Rock turn his head, the rhythm section is anchored deep in the pocket with a bubbling bass line, quivering vibraphone, shimmery guitar and honey thick horns. It’s all the support that background singers the ‘soul mates’ and lead singer Kelly Finnigan need to exhibit why empathetic lovers should think twice about giving “so many chances.”

Friends since childhood, The Sextones are Mark Sexton (guitar, vocals), Alexander Korostinsky (bass), Daniel Weiss (drums), and Christopher Sexton (piano). Having known each other for so long, their musical chemistry is effortless and forms the foundation of the band’s longevity and creative workflow. Despite their bond, each member has been able to channel their creativity into other acclaimed groups—Alexander and Mark with their cinematic-soul project Whatitdo Archive Group and Daniel's recent engagement in the soul/jazz group Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio. Flexing their creative muscle individually has only strengthened The Sextones’ collective songwriting ability and heralds their formidable return to the spotlight with their upcoming record this fall. With their recent signing to heavy-weight soul label, Record Kicks, the self-made heroes of soul begin a new chapter in their sonic journey, ready to scale new heights and plumb deep emotional depths in service of the genre they love.
