Alternative Rock
Minus the Bear
Minus the Bear
Alternative Rock
The Seattle quintet Minus the Bear formed shortly after the turn of the millennium, fusing the previous decade’s forward-thinking math rock guitar gymnastics with the new century’s poptimistic pulse, indie sleaze revelry, and technological adventurism. Across the span of eighteen years, six full-lengths, and an array of singles and EP, the band traversed a broad swathe of sonic territories, seamlessly jumping from brainy indie pop to glitchy dance-punk to ambitious prog rock, all while retaining their signature blend of celebratory swagger with a pensive and reflective patina. Fueled by guitarist David Knudson’s fingertapping dexterity and pedalboard wizardy, vocalist/guitarist Jake Snider’s wistful and poignant depictions of adulthood escapades, multi-instrumentalist Alex Rose’s lush synth layers, and bassist Cory Murchy’s nimble groove, Minus the Bear created a body of work that cemented their place as one of modern indie rock’s most distinctive and influential acts.
Though Minus the Bear toured extensively across Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia, they were mainly known as an absolute juggernaut on the North American circuit, where they routinely sold-out theaters from coast to coast. Their final US tour was documented on the posthumously released live album Farewell, which captured not only the fiery and flawless execution of their most beloved material, but also the fervent enthusiasm of their devoted fanbase. The band dissolved at the end of 2018 as the responsibilities in their private lives took precedence over the rigorous demands of being in a full-time band.

Shoegaze
Keep
Keep
Shoegaze
Keep is a band from Richmond, VA that was formed in 2013. They are heavily influenced by the likes of The Cure, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Slowdive, but that only scratches the surface. In a review of their second album, Happy In Here, it is stated that “even with these comparisons and any accuracy they could possess, Keep are a band that’s not only cut their own sort of path, but have become quite seasoned at it.” Their music has spanned a number of genres over the years, but most often falls under the banner of shoegaze. Regardless of specific distinctions, Keep sits firmly in the web of alternative rock music. Audiotree aptly described the sound as “grand and majestic”, adding that it is “ensconced in an all consuming mist of heavy noise.”
Keep is a band that is tried and true. With over ten years of experience, three albums, a host of EP’s, and countless tours (both stateside and abroad) under their belt, they are only just hitting their stride. Almost Static will be the defining Keep record, as the many influences that the band has historically displayed are pieced together in a more seamless manner than they’ve ever been. Additionally, the band branches into new territory on tracks like "Smile Down (Into Nothing)," "Bermuda," and "Almost Static."
This is an album built for long hours spent in the car which is frequently reflected in the lyrics. Almost Static explores many of thoughts that might cross one’s mind on such expansive journeys. It’s a driving and anthemic record that navigates the meandering nature of a world that won’t slow down. It’s a soundtrack for hurtling further and further into oblivion
