Mike Troy is a saxophonist and educator based in New York City, where he has performed regularly on the jazz scene since 2012. He studied at SUNY Purchase College on scholarship with Eric Alexander, Gary Smulyan, Ralph Lalama, Steve Wilson, and Jon Gordon, earning a BFA in jazz studies in 2015. Troy began on saxophone at age nine, taking classical lessons with William Eicher and jazz instruction with Dave Schiavone. He has led groups at Smalls Jazz Club, where he has appeared more than 150 times, and at Ornithology Jazz Club, and his international dates include an opening performance at the Moers Jazz Festival in Germany. A multi-instrumentalist, he is also active as a private teacher and has taught jazz improvisation and repertoire at SUNY Purchase College.
