All of us at Jazz Standard are proud and pleased to welcome the wonderful singer and songwriter Michelle Coltrane in her first appearance on our stage: The only daughter of John and Alice Coltrane, her September 10 engagement falls between the birthdays of her mother (8/27) and father (9/23). Multi–talented Michelle lived for a number of years in Japan where she found success as a DJ, vocal arranger, songwriter, and voiceover performer. As a solo artist, she’s released two well–received albums, I Think Of Youand Awakening; and toured the U.S. and France, sharing stages with such jazz notables as Jeff “Tain” Watts, Billy Childs, Jack DeJohnette, and McCoy Tyner. “I feel that songwriting is the strongest part of myself. I feel confident with it and have for a long time,” Michelle Coltrane told Jazz Times. “I love [creating] stories.
