    Memphis Radio Kings

    Alternative

SEATTLE – November 14, 2017 – Seattle indie-pop trio Memphis Radio Kings is releasing two widely anticipated songs since reforming last year. The new singles “Bullet Train” and “Run Silent” are debuting Nov. 20, 2017, across select digital and retail outlets in advance of a full-length album scheduled for early 2018.

The songs are a departure from the rootsy feel of the band’s previous four albums, featuring a thicker and more varied sound. The original trio of guitarist/vocalist Charlie Beck, drummer/keyboardist/vocalist Tony Leamer and guitarist/vocalist Tim Jones reunites, drawing from the band’s nearly two decades of recording songs and performing hundreds of shows together.

“This is by far the best music we have ever done. We understand each other much better as songwriters now, and are influenced by a greater depth of life experiences that has enhanced our sound and our lyrics,” Leamer said. “These singles are a taste of what’s to come on our full-length album as we continue to perform across the U.S.”
The band’s last full-length album together was Four (2006), featuring artfully crafted pop songs and an instrumental mix of guitars, drums, synthesizers and pianos. After putting Memphis Radio Kings on hiatus, Beck and Leamer formed the duo Hondo II in 2010, focusing on blending their organic songwriting approach with synth-driven melodies and programmed beats.

They joined up with Jones for a re-energized Memphis Radio Kings tour in late 2015, leading to an outpouring of new material. “Bullet Train” and “Run Silent” blend the sounds of Hondo II with the evolved pop focus of Four and beats from Another Punch from a So-Called Friend (2009).
The tracks were produced at The Recovery Room studios in Seattle with Graig Markel (Animals at Night, Head Like a Kite, Brent Amaker and the Rodeo.) The singles are being released by Seattle’s Hot Stack Records and distributed by Burnside Distribution Corporation in Portland, Oregon.

    The National Guard

    Rock

Late in 2015, The National Guard formed in Seattle, Washington. Perhaps imperfectly slotted into the “Rock” category, the band consists of Nick Pollock (My Sister’s Machine, Soulbender, Tanks Of Zen), Erin Tate (Minus the Bear), Chris Quinn, (Truly, West Section Line) and Nick Rhinehart (Jerry Cantrell, Bam Bam). The band has years of collective experience playing locally, nationally and internationally.

As this musical history suggests, there are disparate influences at play, ranging from hard rock and metal to indie rock and alternative rock. Make no mistake, however. The result is focused, tight, and melodic. While their first album is currently being recorded, the band is looking forward to playing live sets in the near future.

Inauguration Day, their first release, is dedicated to narcissism at its finest. Originally titled “Narcissus,” this song morphed quite naturally into “Inauguration Day,” a nod to the colorful & boorish characters present in today’s Divided States of America.
