All of us at Jazz Standard are delighted to welcome Maurice “Mobetta” Brown back to the bandstand. Maurice’s talents have found him at home in three worlds – contemporary jazz, blues–rock and cutting–edge hip hop – with stage and recording credits that range from Aretha Franklin to Dr. Lonnie Smith. A 2011 GRAMMY Award winner for his contributions to the Tedeschi–Trucks Band’s debut album, Revelator, Maurice Brown arrives on our stage fresh from touring with Anderson Paak, at the helm of a true all–star band featuring alto sax dynamo Donald Harrison Jr. and vibes master Joel Ross. “Blessed with as much instrumental technique as improvisational imagination, as much jazz erudition as appetite for innovation, he does not fit neatly into anyone's profile of how a rising jazz soloist sounds.
