In 2024, beloved jazz drummer Matt Wilson will celebrate the 60th anniversary of his birth with a vibrant new recording, Good Trouble. The recording, to be released in June of 2024, marks his 14th as a leader for Palmetto Records, a label he has been associated with for 28 years. Among compositions by Wilson, Ornette Coleman, Gary Bartz and John Denver is a three movement suite co-composed by Wilson and Jeff Lederer, Good Trouble, which is dedicated to the legacy of the late United States congressman, Representative John Lewis, the heralded activist for civil rights in America. For this recording, Wilson has gathered together a team of stellar sonic purveyors he is also calling Good Trouble. Their Birdland performance will be the NYC debut of this incredible new jazz super group! Tia Fuller - alto saxophone  Dawn Clement - piano & vocals Jeff Lederer - tenor saxophone & clarinet  Ben Allison - bass Matt Wilson - drums Few musicians embody the spontaneous energy of jazz quite like Matt Wilson. The New York-based drummer combines buoyant zeal, idiosyncratic style, infectious humor, joyous swing and an indomitable spirit of surprise, making him one of the most in-demand players and educators in jazz today. Wilson was named 2018 Musician of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association and his album, Honey And Salt (Music Inspired by the Poetry of Carl Sandburg), won 2018 Album of the Year. He has appeared on over 500 albums and has released 20 acclaimed recordings as a leader. A renowned educator, Wilson is on a tireless mission to foster a lively and deep connection between music and people, whether they be playing or listening to it. Wilson is on faculty at the New School, San Francisco Conservatory, SUNY Purchase and Sarah Lawrence College.

All ticket sales are final. We do not offer refunds, however you can email us at office@birdlandjazz.com to have your ticket credit held or exchanged for a future date.

You must notify us at least 24 hours before the performance. The ticket credit is valid six months from the date of cancellation, and can only be exchanged once. We are not able to offer transfers outside of this policy.
