    Marmalakes

    Alternative Rock

Marmalakes' debut album, "Please Don't Stop" arrives 5/11/2018 via Austin Town Hall Records.

Marmalakes is the Austin, TX, group led by Chase Weinacht (guitar/songwriting) and Josh Halpern (drums/production), lifelong friends whose spirited intensity leaps from their recordings. Marmalakes released their debut EP in 2010, followed by well-received EP releases in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Please Don't Stop will be the band's debut full-length, and proves to be well worth the wait.

While Weinacht and Halpern always return to write songs together as Marmalakes, both have remained involved in other musical projects over the years. Halpern stays busy, currently playing with Shearwater (Sub Pop), Palo Duro (30th Century Recordings), and The Dan Ryan (Cosmic Dreamer Music). He is featured on "Black Widow," the new single from Loma (Sub Pop). In 2017, he recorded with John Vanderslice (Tiny Telephone) as part of the group Allelujah, as well as playing in Still Corners (Sub Pop). Weinacht currently records and performs with The Hermits, who will have a new record in 2018.

Marmalakes can be distinguished by their affinity for high energy performances and strategic pop nuance and Please Don’t Stop is a collection of songs that will endure the test of time. Weinacht wrote the lyrics in piecemeal, adding a tidbit here, a new turn on an image there. He pays tribute to rural life in sparsely populated Texas towns he lived in as a child (those scenes and voices permanently inform his songwriting), while employing a playfulness only found in the city. The ten song album was produced by Danny Reisch (White Denim, Okkervil River, Shearwater) and Marmalakes, mixed by Danny Reisch, and mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Mastering in Boston. Please Don't Stop excellently illustrates the journey these two have taken, resulting in a wondrous batch of songs that marks the beginning of something huge.

Solar Twin is the brainchild of Nashville based and Seattle born artist Shane Tutmarc. Listen closely and you may hear familiar elements from his previous projects Dolour and United State of Electronica. With Solar Twin this prolific artist has redefined the poetry of his songwriting, creating a worldly and eclectic aesthetic where beauty and darkness often trade punches from line to line.

With the songwriting chops he's developed over a decade as a solo artist. Solar Twin's first two singles introduced an idea of the scope of the sound Tutmarc is bringing to the table. Slow Motion (released in September 2016) combined R&B and hip hop grooves, with baroque pop arrangements. Next, Black Sky Revisited (released in December 2016) felt more like a hard rock version of Daft Punk, with vocoder vocals, heavy guitars, and a Beatle-esque feel. The third single, The Big Sleep was penned specifically for the closing credits of a documentary that focuses on the heroin epidemic on Seattle's streets. The song marries Solar Twin's signature dreamy sound with lyrics of dependence and addiction, in a way that is universal to any listener.

“The upcoming Solar Twin album to me represents a rebirth. After 10 years of following my muse down a more dusty, American roots path, this is a project that feels completely free from rules or genre aesthetics. I was tired of relying on other people to help me realize my ambitions. So, I put together a home studio and started doing everything myself. I brought in a few friends along the way (Matthew Hoopes of Relient K, Zach Ryan, and Sammy Barrett on True Colors), but this is mostly just a solo vision of music with endless possibilities. Melodic, dark, introspective, moody, and at times very catchy. I tried to bring in flavors from all of my favorite music. It's an album that was challenging in all the right ways, I'm really proud of the result, and can't wait to share it with everyone.” – says Tutmarc

On Solar Twin’s upcoming album debut the songs are many things—a protest, a rally cry, a kind of musical film noir filled with life, pain, hope and love.
