    Making Movies

    Latin

Making Movies blends pulsing Afro-Latino rhythms, psychedelic jams and rock ’n’ roll swagger into powerful live performances, full of theatrics and cathartic climaxes. Armed with the ambitious and politically charged 2017 release I Am Another You — “lyrically and sonically one of the best albums of the year,” NPR raved — and a companion EP, You Are Another Me, the Kansas City band punches out one high-energy song after another. The foursome showcases their Latin American roots, with frontman Enrique Chi incorporating traditional instruments like the Panamanian mejorana alongside electric guitar, or the Chaurand brothers swapping drums and percussion for a dueling zapateado huasteco, a traditional form of dance from Veracruz, Mexico. The band's political idea is straightforward enough that they can express it in four words: “We are all immigrants.”

    Quinto Imperio

    Cumbia

Quinto Imperio got started in 2003 as a family project in Chicago with the intention of keeping 3 young brothers away from the street dangers. What started as a hobby, soon thrived through Hugo's, Edy's, and Fredy's interest for music despite not having the resources for instruments or music classes.
The three brothers learned a few songs and started performing in block parties in Back of The Yards. Later on they were joined by Marciano(Guitar) and KinT(Keyboard and MC), Adriana(Vocalist), and Jevus(Congas/Percussion).
Currently with 7 members, the band plays over a base of cumbia from different regions of america and mixes it with world rythms such as reggae, salsa, hip-hop, among other popular rythms. Quinto Imperio's music comes heavily influenced from central, south america, and africa, as well as a piece on social justice, calling out immigration issues, and promoting community pride.

Their hybrid cumbia sounds have traveled across different cities in the united states as well as locally in Chicago in private and public venues. Quinto Imperio released their first album titled Cronica Inmigrante on January 2017.
