Description
FEAR is one of the most notorious and influential bands to emerge from the early American hardcore punk movement. Formed in Los Angeles in 1977 and led by the confrontational and charismatic frontman Lee Ving, FEAR became known for their blistering speed, razor-sharp musicianship, and an intentionally provocative sense of humor that pushed the boundaries of punk culture.  Blending hardcore aggression with rock-and-roll grooves and dark satire, FEAR carved out a reputation as one of the most unpredictable and explosive live acts of the era. Their legendary performances in the late-’70s and early-’80s often erupted into chaos, cementing the band’s place in punk mythology. In 1982 they released their landmark debut album, The Record, featuring enduring punk anthems like “I Don’t Care About You,” “Let’s Have a War,” and “New York’s Alright If You Like Saxophones.” FEAR’s infamy reached a national audience after their controversial appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1981, where an invited crowd of hardcore fans turned the studio into a mosh-pit, resulting in one of the most talked-about performances in the show’s history. Decades later, FEAR remains a towering presence in punk rock—equal parts ferocious, irreverent, and unapologetically loud. With Lee Ving still at the helm, the band continues to bring their raw, high-energy sound and legendary attitude to stages around the world, reminding audiences why FEAR helped define the sound and spirit of American hardcore. Detroit's Hairy Queen was formed in 2016, just as the city was in its most recent renaissance.  The punk band was happy for new all the shiny new opportunities but also missed the grit and grime of the Detroit they grew up in.The members are Todd Farmum (vocals), Scott Koskinen (Guitar), Brian Spezia (Bass), and DK 'Rev.Dave' Wallis (Drums). The band are Gen X degenerates who forgot to cash in their white male privilege and instead chased their musical urges around the scene from the 80's until today.  Through shifting lineups, death and hard work they forged their sound - melding influences from Stooges, MC5, Motorhead, Alice Cooper, Replacements, Buzzcocks and on and on.  Their songs are pure Detroit Punk.  More riff, hook, and song based than slash chords, all with the Rustbelt tinge and grit of the bluecollar midwest.  After gigging all over town and then touring regionally (from Fort Wayne to Akron!) Hairy Queen recorded their debut eponymous album at Mt. Doom studios and released it in late 2024.
