Kenny Darling (Post Harbor, The Trouble Starts), Daniel G. Harmann (Daniel G Harmann, The Trouble Starts), Danny Oleson (Exohxo, Speaker Speaker), and Jasen Samford (Exohxo, Speaker Speaker) have a new project together called Local Liars.
We’re a fast paced pop-rock/pop-punk band from Seattle, WA, and we just recorded this album at Orbit Audio with incredibly talented producer Ryan Leyva. Here’s a little background on why we did that...
The four of us were standing around--after a friend’s show some time ago--talking about how we got into this in the first place. Why do we take on the strange, and often self-defeating act of being musicians? The rush of being on a stage? The extremely low weeks or even months after an album didn’t quite perform how you’d hoped it would? (It can break your heart, truly).
Even with all of the community and comedy, there are still the unseen hours and hours and hours of labor. Why do musicians sign up for this? It was during that conversation that we realized how similar it was for each of us. And then we all reminisced about how we each fell in love with music while going to all-ages rock shows, as teenagers.
We all pogo’d up and down in a sweaty crowd of peers, screaming every lyric along in unison to some small-market band, who were genuinely pouring their hearts out through every gut wrenching churn of distorted guitars and blast beat. We fell head-over-heels with the push and pull between the band and the crowd, in love with the pure energy of those moments—In love with being young—with punk rock.
We all wanted to honor that. So we wrote and recorded an album.
Listen, we don’t want to reinvent the wheel here. We’re not trying to claim to be the hottest new thing, or that our record is a game changer. I mean, it sounds like old pop-punk. And we love it. We’re not just wearing our influences on our sleeves. We’re pretty much blowing kisses at them and writing their names on our binders. There is intent here, and we’re not hiding from it at all.
We think we made something that connects to that thing that hooked us all in the first place. That intangible thing that makes you hide in your bedroom and scream along to every word with the doors locked and the volume up. That thing that makes you dive off the front of the stage when you’re not even in the band... And that’s how we feel when we play these songs together.
We’re not really looking for much, other than wanting the album to get heard by anyone that might get what we’re trying to put out there... and maybe play a few select kick-ass shows so we can scream along to these songs with you!
We hope you’ll give it a listen. And if you're into it, share it with someone else who will get it too.
With Love & Gratitude,
