"Look in the mirror, Keya. Look and see just how beautiful you really are" A quote Mrs.Trammell often used in her daughter's early life. At the age of 2, Keya was diagnosed with the auto immune disease, Alopecia Totalis; A complete loss of scalp hair occurring either all at one time or within a short period of time. Keya often dealt with mental and emotional abuse from other children because of her lack of hair as a growing child. This ultimately made her feel very abnormal and different. The one aspect of life she felt made her whole was music. Being that her family was musically inclined, the love of music was instilled in her at a young age. By the age of 7, Keya began to allow music to fluster throughout her voice and knew that it was the number one thing she loved to do. The first singing group she was apart of , "2 apart", was formed by three of her cousins plus herself. Singing "Emotions" by Destiny's Child, placed them 1st in their first community talent show. Within that first year after the big win, Keya made her departure from her cousin quartet. Separated from the quartet, Pre-teen Keya began to listen and be influenced from various artists on the horizons of Ne yo-Soul,Gospel &Jazz. Poetry also became a huge confidant in her life. Her junior high school music teacher, Mrs.James, was one of the first people outside of her family that saw her light. Mrs. James would make sure Keya sang at every school event and also took her to inner city Chicago churches to sing solo. Throughout Keya's high school career she participated in the Inspirational Voice Choir and also was apart of the Belcanto Choir which taught her how to manage and control her vocals. After High School, Keya reluctantly went to the community college near home because of her father's respected wishes. During the one year she promised her father of college, Keya entered the Prairie State Idol Competition in which she won 1st place singing Lalah Hathaway's " Forever,For Always,For Love". Always intrigued with beauty, Keya made the decision to further her knowledge in the beauty industry at the Tricoci University of Beauty Culture. Keya attended only for six moths due to lack of focus and determination. Not letting that downfall define her, she decided that she would make a way for herself. Because of her passion, Keya worked with a plethora of makeup companies and began to start singing heavily in her church. By her singing in church, A vast of people were touched by her voice and testimony. This led her to perform alongside Kim Stratton, Voice Coaches, Michael&Lana Manson, Stellar Award-Winning, Angela Martin,Stellar Award-Winning, Tony Tidwell, Master Pianist, Lee Hartzol and many others. As of present day,Keya is an independent makeup artist and is also in the process of writing and recording her music . Keya's mission is to create music that speaks to insecurities ,knowledge and most importantly love for self and others.
