Leon Anderson, Jr. is a renowned jazz drummer, composer, and educator from Shreveport, Louisiana, celebrated for his deep groove, impeccable technique, and soulful connection to the New Orleans jazz tradition. A protégé of Ellis Marsalis and Victor Goines, Anderson honed his craft performing at venues like Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro and collaborating with legends such as Wynton Marsalis, Marcus Roberts, Terence Blanchard, and Wycliffe Gordon. His versatility spans classical percussion to modern jazz, earning him recognition as both a dynamic performer and respected bandleader. Now serving as Associate Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at Florida State University, Anderson has shaped the next generation of jazz musicians through his mentorship and innovative teaching. His debut album as a leader, Live at Snug Harbor (2025), captures his signature energy and artistry, honoring the New Orleans roots that continue to inspire his work on and off the stage.
