Lady Moon & The Eclipse
Lady Moon & The Eclipse
Funk
Lady Moon & The Eclipse is a multicultural seven-piece band based in Brooklyn, NY. Through soaring vocal textures and R&B/afrobeat-influenced rhythms, their music sheds light on social issues. With a marked emphasis on inclusivity and spiritual unity, Lady Moon & The Eclipse explores relevant topics through a unique tapestry of cultural perspectives borne out of its African, Asian and European band members.
After a series of both chance encounters and mindful collaborations across San Francisco and New York City, Lady Moon & The Eclipse came together in October 2014. “Lady Moon” is vocalist Ngonda Badila, whose name means “moon” in Congolese. The rest of the band serves as the “sun” that bestows light upon her; during each stage performance the audience experiences a metaphorical “eclipse.” Hence the name — Lady Moon & The Eclipse. The band is a true conglomeration of artists; when off stage, band members pursue diverse mediums ranging from dance to visual arts to environmental science.
Despite its recent establishment, Lady Moon & The Eclipse has deeply rooted itself into the music community throughout the past year. In December 2014 they completed a four-night residency at PianoFight in San Francisco, where they ushered in the opening weekend of "San Francisco's next landmark entertainment venue.” In March 2015, they participated in The Greenspace WNYC/WQXR Battle of the Boroughs and made it to the final round. Recently, they have partnered with Brooklyn Wildlife to curate and produce a series of events called The Gospel. Lady Moon & The Eclipse is currently in the process of recording their first EP, set to release late September on CD and online.
In a deeply politicized and fragmented society, Lady Moon & The Eclipse stands as a musical anomaly that promotes the individual voices of its diverse band members and their cultural narratives. They strongly believe in inclusivity, which is starkly evident in their eclectic sound.
