After the film, we keep the energy going with an all-vinyl set by Rizoma, taking us on a journey through the hypnotic grooves of chicha, cumbia, and Latin psych sounds. Expect deep cuts, classic anthems, and raw tropical rhythms to keep the celebration alive!
Synopsis:
Moyobamba, the capital of the San Martín region in northern Peru. In the heat of the jungle, a group of young musicians gathers at the Rodríguez Grández household for a moment that will change the course of Latin American music history: the birth of Los Mirlos and Amazonian cumbia.
Through extensive archival audiovisual material—ranging from their early performances at local parties in the '60s to their recent successful tours across Europe—La danza de Los Mirlos narrates the journey of one of the pioneering bands of the genre. Beyond that, it traces a genealogy of tropical and popular music across an entire continent. Without overlooking the usual disputes among band members, eccentric adventures, and the unwavering devotion of their fans, Álvaro Luque’s documentary becomes as endless as the melody of the international cumbia anthem that gives it its name.
