Down North masterfully mixes underground rock and party-fueling soul, regularly lifting up audiences that have been craving new soul sounds from the city that gave the world Wheedle’s Groove and Jimi Hendrix. Down North is part of the zeitgeist not only of bands mining a deeper, better played history, but also one that taps into the 90s music scene when anything was possible.
“We want to be a beacon for this scene that’s happening now and not getting enough notice,” says frontman Anthony Renegade Briscoe. He wants to open up the party to rock fans “who want to DANCE again!” and to those who have been craving fresh, warm, loving soul in the midst of a chilly indie scene. “The people that play in this band are excellent at what they do and we’re all here to play music for people who want to move and connect.”

Breaks & Swells are the Seattle embodiment of soul revival. Imagine a 9-piece group driven by dynamic female vocals “Throwback Sweet Sugar Sounds” (Seattle Music News), and completed with horns and auxiliary percussion. Think Soul. Think Funk. They’re burning like a heat wave, getting down with nasty grooves and skunky funk, making even the most stoic of hipsters want to DANCE!

Whitney Monge is the quintessential Seattle “Alternative Soul”, singer, songwriter, and guitarist. “I create music that evokes emotion. Whatever that emotion is entirely up to the listener.” She is known for her solo performances: Winning 2nd place at Hard Rock Battle of the Bands 2012, in the award-winning film “Find Your Way: A Buskers’ Documentary”, and two released CDs. But she now is expanding her sound with a backing band of local talent, transforming her heartfelt lyrics and raspy sultry vocals into a big sound that will entice the crowd to DANCE!

Purr Gato brings powerful female vocals using pop melodies, sweet and dark effected harmonies, trip-hop beats and deep driving synth bass lines. You might think they garner inspiration from David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, or The Knife...wave of the eighties, trip hop of the nineties, LoFi of naughties....
Following up on their successful release of debut album “Heart Beat” in 2013, two videos, and a summer tour in 2014, Purr Gato is back in the studio with producers from various genres (Industrial, Hip Hop, Trip Hop, EDM, Reggae), remixing songs into their own vision. Their identities are being kept secret until the official release. While Purr Gato is readying 2015 Tour Across the Rockies, They are taking a break to come give us some of their sexy Electro trip hop pop down tempo dark wave DANCE music!

With influences ranging widely across the spectrum of Soul, Rock, Funk, Jazz, and Pop, Breaks and Swells are hard to pin down. What isn't hard to understand is the power and energy they bring to live performances; convincing even usually hard-to-sway Seattle crowds to get down and dance. The voice of front-woman Marquetta Miller has shades of Diana Ross with an unexpected edge. Derrick Jones on drums and recent addition Brice Ervin on bass, pull from unexpected sources for their rhythms. In addition to sharing song-writing duties with Miller, guitarist Dylon Tubb and pianist Quinton Harris have a major hand in the band's arrangements and over-all sound. A rotating cast of horn players features Jeremy Shaskus and Mike Lundquist. Breaks and Swells are no stranger to Seattle festivals, having played sets during the Macefield Festival, Capitol Hill Block Party, and Noise for the Needy. The band self-released an EP in 2014, and had the pleasure of releasing a single in 2016 on Lost Hymn, "Key to Love", produced by Jerry Streeter. The band looks to release their Erik Blood-produced LP "We Will Not Despair" at the end of Summer 2017.
