It doesn’t take more than one song to feel inspired by the soul and love in Leven Kali’s sound. His
soothing voice and signature background harmonies have been making waves since his first independent
single release, “Joy” in 2017. Leven introduced himself to music as a career through a string of incredible
collaborations and solo singles that year. Not bound by genre or style, he contributed to and was featured
on projects with artists such as Snoh Allegra (FEELS), Playboi Carti (Self-Titled), Skrillex (HOWSLA), and
Drake (More Life). Staying true to his roots, he remains surrounded by his hometown friends and family,
crafting his unique and heartfelt sound with the people that he loves.
Leven was born in the Netherlands and raised in Santa Monica, where he met future bandmates, Sol
Was, Cam Johnson, and Sap Murphy. With two musicians as parents in a modest household, Leven
made an unexpected pivot in his early teens as he decided to pursue a career in professional golf. Such a
decision would require resources beyond his means, but with the support of his family and community,
Leven was able to earn a Division I scholarship. However, it was during his freshman year at UC
Riverside when his relationship with music truly developed. Making the 2-hour drive from classes and
practice to the studio in Santa Monica became almost a daily routine. After releasing some demos on
Soundcloud, Leven began to receive attention from influential music blogs and A&R’s. Music quickly
became the main focus, despite his athletic potential. During his off-season, he was invited to South
Korea as a songwriter in 2016, working with prominent K-Pop groups EXO and NCT. He was still a
full-time student – somehow managing to finish finals from the studio lobby. It quickly became
unsustainable as more opportunities presented themselves, including major label record deal offers.
Amidst inevitable backlash, Leven decided to walk away from golf in pursuit of a musical career. Being
one to bet on himself, he applied the same level of commitment that he once did to sports to this new
journey.
Leven signed with Interscope one year later. He then released his first single, “Do U Wrong (feat. Syd).”
Critically acclaimed and culturally adored, the anthem has amassed over 40 million global streams and
broke genre barriers as the leading single for his debut project “LOWTIDE.” In conjunction with the
forthcoming project “HIGHTIDE,” the two-form double-album. The dual body of work reflects Leven’s
unique coming of age. It walks us through his pursuit of excellence in storytelling. Highly anticipated,
“HIGHTIDE” was released on May 1st, 2020. It was produced and written by Leven and his band mates,
with contributions from the greater Palm Studios family. Fans can expect an evolution of the same energy
they know and love in this new chapter.
