Seattle institution KINSKI are a grizzled and grungy riff-rock powerhouse, a four-piece that follows their instincts to explore pathways from visceral guitar rock, to sonic and heady avant-psych rock, and sparse, atmosphere-bending instrumentals. The band writes arena-ready, fist-pumping anthems and have been a juggernaut since forming in 1998. Though they pulled a vanishing act recording-wise after their 2007 LP, Down Below Its Chaos, the wait was worth it in the fret-hopping heroics that arrived with 2013's Cosy Moments. Thankfully, KINSKI didn't bother waiting another six years to release something fresh, cause just this past summer we got 7 (or 8), an album Noisey calls "high-wattage wah-wah and noise pedal stomping stoner chug." Yes, the title alludes to what number record they're on, and it's no surprise they might be confused, what with all the mind-frying they've been doing coast-to-coast over the past 17 years. Don't miss em, homies. Returning to play second tonight is Chicago's own RLYR, a band that features members of PELICAN, LOCRIAN and BLOODIEST. With that pedigree you're probably expecting something very loud, something that could be described as "doomy" or "sludgy," but as usual, you're fucking wrong, dummy! RLYR is an instrumental rock band that takes a far more pop-oriented approach than their members might suggest while still peeling that stupid face off your stupid skull. Sorry for all the aggressive swearing -- RLYR is a remarkably good rock band and you should come see them live. New-ish Chicago band LUGGAGE is comprised of members of BASIC CABLE, LOOSE DUDES and CLEARED, and though they formed less than a year ago, you can already hear their debut album, Sun, on their bandcamp page. The trio's dark, noisy blend of shoegaze, post-punk and droning psychedelia is intensely hypnotic and we're damn excited to welcome them back to our stage tonight. Judging by the tunes and the members' pedigrees, we can guarantee it'll be a damn good start to this fine fall evening.
