Description
Why Kevn Kinney is not a household name is beyond me. He started the seminal Southern Rock band Drivin n Cryin in Atlanta in 1985 and they were early MTV favorites and an essential band in the college circuit throughout the ‘90s. Releasing incredible songs that Kevn wrote like Honeysuckle Blue and Fly Me Courageous cemented their legacy as one of the best in class. They are still touring and rocking today. In fact they play Chickie the week before Jazzfest and it will ROCK!
This show on Thursday the 23rd at 8 PM, however, will show everyone the folkier side of Kevn Kinney who we believe is simply one of the best songwriters of his generation. His wife Anna has been working incredibly hard over the past few years on a compilation of Kevn’s songs by an amazing and very impressive list of artists - everyone from the Black Crowes to Warren Haynes to the Indigo Girls to Jamey Johnson to members of REM to Allison Russell to Jason Isbell and more! She’s not quite up to 100 yet but she will be soon! Please check it out at:

We will celebrate Kevn, his songs, and this incredible project with some fantastic special guests. Local badass rocker Kristin Diable is working on a song for the compilation and will debut it here. Rurik Nunan will be joining Kevn on the fiddle, and Stevie Tombstone will also be hopping in for a couple of songs. Who knows who else may make an appearance! You don’t want to miss it.

Kevn Kinney is the lead singer / songwriter of the Atlanta rock band, Drivin N Cryin, who recently celebrated the release of their 9th studio album, ‘Live the Love Beautiful’, on Drivin N Cryin Records. Since the band's 1985 inception, he's released some spare acoustic records on his own, often collaborating with R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck.
MacDougal Blues, released on Island Records in 1990, announced the rocker's arrival on the folk scene, with the engaging title cut and nine more acoustic tracks, produced by Buck, and mostly played by his bandmates from Drivin N Cryin.
Though often cited as a working-class lyricist, Kinney cannot easily be thrown into the same bag as Springsteen, Mellencamp, or Dave Alvin. Instead, his is a unique spin on class, not urban yet not completely rural.
Kinney still continues to tour as a solo artist in-between dates with Drivin N Cryin, and is known to help host the annual Christmas Jam in Asheville with Warren Haynes. Darius Rucker cut Kinney’s song, Straight To Hell, on his album When Was The Last Time. The Drivin N Cryin song was a major hit on their album, Mystery Road, originally released in 1989.
