Description
Whether playing solo, trio, or quintet, Kenny Barron is recognized the world over as a master of performance and composition. For his unmatched ability to mesmerize audiences with his elegant playing, sensitive melodies and infectious rhythms, the Philadelphia–born pianist was honored by the National Endowment for the Arts as a 2010 Jazz Master. In 1974, he released Sunset To Dawn – the first of his more than 40 albums as a leader. This Jazz Standard engagement heralds the release of Concentric Circles, a new Blue Note CD of previously unrecorded Kenny Barron originals that he premiered on our stage last year. “Within his playing you can hear a digest of mainstream jazz piano traditions, with bebop as the root. You can also hear the measured tension of an expert nudging himself toward a challenge.” (The New York Times)
