*Happy Hour Concert Series* featuring Karen Shiraishi & Max Moran Karen Shiraishi is a British-Japanese pianist and composer based in New Orleans. A recipient of the Chamber Music America Performance Plus grant, Shiraishi’s debut album featuring Herlin Riley, Max Moran, Andrew Baham and Julian Lee, is set to be released in 2026. Already having developed a self-assured, recognisable voice as a composer and improviser, her music is melodically driven, harmonically rich, and imbued with swing. She has gained attention in the traditional music scene, appearing with Shannon Powell, Kermit Ruffins, Stephen Walker and the Preservation Hall All-Stars. She has also established herself as a highly sought-after sideman in the straight-ahead scene and leads a weekly jam session at Vaughan’s lounge alongside saxophonist Orlando “Lil Prince” Gilbert. Max Moran is a Louisiana-born musician and composer who has become a first-call bassist across several genres in New Orleans’ thriving music scene. Known for his versatility on electric bass, upright bass, and synthesizer, Moran provides a solid, soulful foundation to many classic and progressive bands. Performing since the age of thirteen, Max Moran spent over ten years as the bassist of jazz master Donald Harrison and has also shared the stage with artists such as Davell Crawford, Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Bernie Worrell (Parliament/ Funkadelic), and Grammy nominees Christian Scott and Jamison Ross. Shiraishi and Moran join forces to perform a selection of choice classics and unreleased original compositions from Shiraishi’s upcoming album.
