Kanekoa, ‘ukulele jam band. 3 ukes and percussion --Vince Esquire shreds on 'ukulele, Kaulana Kanekoa, lead vocals and 'ukulele, and u-bass master Don Lopez, with percussionist Lopaka Colon (he plays in Mick Fleetwood's band, among many others, here in the islands). Called the "Hawaiian Grateful Dead" by the Dead's Bill Kreutzmann, and championed by Los Lobos (Steve Berlin produced their most recent CD), they become audience favorites wherever they tour. Their audiences spans baby boomers and deadheads to a younger club demographic and 'ukulele fans -- their audiences like to get up and dance. They were on the cover of Ukulele Magazine this past fall.
