Description
KA'IMI HANANO'EAU
Oahu-based artist, Ka`imi Hanano`eau, wears a lot of hats. They include musician, soundman, and avid surfer. At first glance the 6’4 artist seems a bit shy. While some might take his mellow demeanor as being laid back, those in the entertainment field recognize him to be an accomplished talent, a force on stage, and one of the hardest working individuals in town.
A respectful and kind-hearted individual who loves to inspire others, Ka`imi was named “Ka`imihanano`eau” by his Aunty Napua Stevens, a renowned Hawaiian entertainer, singer, hula dancer, musician, and author. The worthy name came to her in a dream and loosely translates to "The constancy and diligent efforts by his ability to work, achieve, ponder, and do with guidance, thus forth passing his knowledge and heritage from this generation to the next."
Raised on the island of Maui, Ka`imi set high goals for himself from a young age. He taught himself how to play the ukulele at age five, and by age 14, performed and worked in production of a local lu`au company. He later relocated to O`ahu and attended college at Brigham Young University Hawaii in La`ie where he graduated with a B.A. in Music (Major) and Hawaiian Studies (Minor) furthering his knowledge with music theory and live sound engineering. He also trained in the Bel Canto vocal style with beloved teacher, Neva Rego.
Ka`imi has taken everything he’s learned both on and off stage, and continues to build a rock solid foundation for a long career in the music industry. Known primarily for his “island rock with an edge” style, he’s a versatile talent with an ability to perform a wide range of music including jazz, Hawaiian, reggae, and contemporary. His skills have earned him award nominations in the 2017 Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards for his work on three separate compilation albums, and a 2016 Nā Hōkū Hanohano award nomination for “Ukulele What?,” his ukulele focused EP. Ka`imi is also recognized as the energetic lead member of the popular alternative, rock, and reggae band, “HiRiZ,” which was also nominated for a 2015 Nā Hōkū Hanohano award.
Always in demand, Ka`imi performs at select venues throughout Hawaii and most recently has been on tour throughout the U.S. with popular hip-hop/reggae band, Spawnbreezie. Ka`imi is proudly sponsored by Hawaii companies, KoAloha Ukulele and Puamana Crabbe Designs.
