Description
As both an assured band leader and a valued sideman, guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg has been steadily burnishing his reputation as one of the most compelling composer/performers on the New York scene. He’s been a key contributor to various bands led by organist Dr. Lonnie Smith and also has gigged and/or recorded with Lee Konitz, Joe Locke, and Don Friedman; as a leader on his own dates, Kreisberg has been able to enlist the talents of drummer Bill Stewart and organist Gary Versace (among other skilled players) for albums on Criss Cross, Mel Bay, and his own imprint New For Now Music. To herald the release of a new CD, Capturing Spirits – JKQ Live!, Kreisberg has assembled an exceptional quartet for this Jazz Standard one–nighter including the gifted pianist Martin Bejerano (check out his album Trio Miami as well as his work on discs by master drummer Roy Haynes and the great guitarist Russell Malone). This is an evening not to be missed, trust Dr. Lonnie Smith when he says Kreisberg is “A passionate musician with great vision…constantly in fiery pursuit of innovation.” (Dr. Lonnie Smith)

Combining timeless melodicism with forward–thinking lines and textures, the music of Jonathan Kreisbeg continues to attract a growing international fan base. The guitarist has performed 20th century works with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas; played progressive rock with the group Third Wish; led his own jazz trio, and has been a key sideman in groups led by Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lee Konitz, and Lenny White, among others. Kreisberg’s latest project brings the fiery veteran pianist Dave Kikoski together with one of the most celebrated young rhythm sections, bassist Rick Rosato and drummer Colin Stranahan. “Every new phase of his work feels different…but in his deep jazz knowledge, cool swing, and Pat Methenyesque song–rooted lyricism, he can also suggest a host of jazz guitarists of earlier eras.” (John Fordham, The Guardian, 3.13.2013)
