Description
Joie Bianco is a 24-year-old jazz singer, teacher, and arranger from Staten Island, New York. She is known for her sweet yet warm tone, reminiscent of jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington. Joie draws inspiration from across the musical spectrum, from the elegance of Nat King Cole and the swing of Roy Eldridge to the spirit of Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the soul of James Brown.
A graduate of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, Bianco has collaborated with many jazz luminaries, including Marilyn Maye, Jane Monheit, Cyrille Aimée, and Joey Calderazzo. Additionally, she has worked with other respected New York musicians like Emmet Cohen, Bryan Carter, Peter Bernstein, Benny Benack III, and more.
She has appeared in many of NYC's renowned jazz and cabaret clubs, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Birdland, and The Django. Joie has also performed at various venues across Texas, such as Monks Jazz, Jazz Texas, and Parker Jazz Club.
While Joie loves performing solo, she can often be found singing around the city with her vocal trio, The Sunhouse Singers. This versatile group—featuring jazz vocalists Kate Kortum, June Cavlan, and Joie Bianco—has performed at venues such as Birdland, Chris’ Jazz Café, Zinc Bar, Mezzrow, Smalls, and The Django, and will appear at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room this January alongside Ekep Nkwelle and Luther Allison.
Joie’s accolades include winning the 2019 YoungArts award in jazz vocals and the 2023 DownBeat Student Music Award for Best Solo Jazz Vocalist. Described by The New York Times’ Stephen Holden as a ‘prodigious discovery,’ she is steadily carving out her place as a young voice in New York’s jazz scene.
